Jollibee Foods Corporation

Mini Stop

Convenience Store

Born Ga Restaurant,

Makati City

The restaurant we have interviewed is a Korean restaurant, BornGa, owned by a South Korean. It is located at Makati City which implemented the banning of plastic bags. Ms. Yeo Eun, Yoon, owner of BornGa, shared to us the basic advantages and disadvantages faced as a producer and worker of business establishments and shared the effects of the banning of plastic bags.

First of all, not using of plastic bags create a good image to the customers especially who are concerned with the environment. It gives the eco friendly image which will be an additional point to the image of the restaurant. Second, the banning of plastic bags made the company and the workers to reduce waste as much as possible. They try to minimize creating waste, and reuse the materials as much as possible.

However, there are limitations of not using of plastic bags. To start with, it is hard for Ms. Yoon and the workers to place food in the paper bags and containers for there is a greater possibility that food might spill. Moreover, paper bags which they are using as a substitute for plastic bags cannot stand the weight of the food after a period of time.

Agno Street

Sari-Sari Store

According to "Sir Jeff" of Jollibee, La Salle Taft Branch, their store had already started on 2012 to implement a 100% Plastic and Styro free packaging for their food products. They had reached complete plastic and styro-free branches on 2013; he had also mentioned that this "transformation" takes a long period of time due to the costs and demands of paper packaging.

Despite the costs of paper packaging, the business establishment still sacrificed their budget to accomplish their 100% Plastic and Styro-free goal.

According to Shop Leader of Mini Stop, EGI Taft branch, Sir "Dex", the Mini Stop business establishment does not implement the plastic ban ordinance due to the inconvenience that their customers may experience with paper bags.

He had stated that plastic, unlike paper, does not easily break and is more durable. It is especially needed with wet and heavy products that is sold in their store.

Similar to the Mini Stop Convenience store, a sari-sari store vendor located at Agno Street, they, too, do not implement the plastic ban ordinance. She had mentioned that paper easily breaks and tears, especially with the drinks and wet products; but not plastic.
